How to Make Your Perfume Last Through a UK Heatwave

How to Make Your Perfume Last Through a UK Heatwave

When the UK finally decides to turn up the heat, we’re here for it—bare shoulders, longer days, golden-hour everything. But let’s be honest: while your sun-kissed skin thrives, your signature scent can start to ghost you.

Perfume evaporates faster in heat, and sweat can dilute or shift how it smells on your skin. The result? A fragrance that fades by lunchtime, or worse, turns into something... unrecognisable.

Here’s how to lock in your scent, even when the temperature’s rising.

Start with Skin That’s Hydrated and Oiled (Yes, Oiled)

Dry skin won’t hold fragrance. After your shower, apply an unscented moisturiser or body oil to the areas where you’ll add scent. Oils hold perfume longer than bare skin, creating a layer the fragrance can bind to, especially in hot weather when your pores are more open.

Go Light on Clothes, Not on Fragrance Fabrics

Your hair, clothing, and scarf fibres hold scent exceptionally well. A light mist on your shirt collar or blazer lining will create a soft, all-day aura without overwhelming. Just make sure the fabric is non-delicate (and test first!).

Pro move: Mist your linen shirt or inner jacket hem before heading out—especially if you're commuting or sitting in the sun. If the perfume is rollerball, roll on your skin and lightly pat with your scarf or clothing.

Focus on Pulse Points (But Not Where You Sweat)

We all know pulse points help project scent—but during a heatwave, avoid areas where sweat builds up (like behind knees or inner elbows). Instead, target wrists, collarbones, and back of the neck. Places that stay drier but still warm.

Carry a Travel Size Bottle or Reapply Like Lipstick

Hot weather means your scent may need topping up. Keep a travel-size spray or rollerball in your handbag so you can refresh post-commute or pre-sunset cocktails. AURRA’s 3ml bottles are PERFECT for this.

AURRA tip: Apply just as you would lipstick: confidently, with intention, and preferably in a beautiful bathroom mirror.

Choose Scents That Love the Heat

Some perfumes are built for heat. Think citrus, neroli, bergamot, or sun-warmed florals. These notes not only last longer but bloom in the heat, becoming richer and more radiant on skin.

A summer heatwave is no reason to lose your signature scent. With a little strategy (and the addition of something sensual), you’ll leave a trail of you wherever you go—sunshine or not.
